Position Purpose

Grind City Media is expanding and seeking a creative and qualified individual to help lead its college football initiative. The College Football Digital Reporter will create relevant and valuable multiplatform content focusing on regional college football coverage in the Mid-South while focusing on the SEC & other collegiate teams in the greater Memphis and regional areas.

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  •  Establish a brand voice and college football presence for the team, through the creation of engaging digital content.
  • Conceptualize, produce, & deliver regional college football content for Grind City Media. Including, but not limited to video, audio, written, & social media content & pieces.
  • Develop relationships with college football coaches, players, and administration in an effort to build and maintain trust and create engaging written, video and audio content.
  • Demonstrate compelling storytelling through all content and use of digital and social media platforms
  • Participate in media, marketing and public relations efforts for the organization as needed.
  • Attend and document various college football games and associated events to create content for platforms.
  • Maintain consistent communication practices across all social media platforms and best practices established by VP of Brand, Content Marketing, Communications, Broadcast, Director of Content and Live Entertainment, and Grind City Media Sr. Editor.
  • Identify opportunities for emerging content platforms, trends and potential new vendor relationships that can add value to content creation.
  • Help build the brand, amplify our messaging and enhance existing revenue opportunities.
  • Assist the team’s business operations staff in connection with its efforts to achieve maximum sponsorship, advertising, ticket sales, and other revenues as needed
  • Additional coverage and content topics and responsibilities to include Grizzlies, Hustle, & Esports as assigned and needed.

Required Skills, Experience & Abilities

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Broadcast, Communications, Journalism, Photography or related and appropriate majors.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience covering college football for a mainstream media outlet.
  • Should possess an extensive list of contacts, sources and experts in and around the college football.
  • Should be versatile enough to provide intelligent, knowledgeable analysis for all Grind City Media channels.
  • Ability to write clear, thoughtful commentary and analysis under extreme deadline pressure.
  • Ability to write multiple stories daily and thoughtful features.
  • Active in social media and blogging.
  • Must possess superior written and verbal skills, editorial judgment and knowledge of digital culture.
  • Detail-oriented and strong organization and project management skill.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high standards in all work.
  • Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office required.
  • Must be willing and able to work non-traditional hours in non-traditional settings (nights and weekends as required).
  • Fluency in college football and fan culture essential.
