Job Purpose

Provide support to General Counsel

Primary (Essential) Duties

  • Prepares and assists with the drafting of certain legal documents under the direction of the General Counsel
  • Assists in the review of legal contracts and transactional documents, including vendor contracts, confidentiality agreements, formation and authorization documents of third parties
  • Assists in the renewal and application process of various commercial insurance policies impacting the company and monitors receipt of required certificates of insurance
  • Provides legal support on major business transactions
  • Reviews, prepares and maintains trademark protection documents in coordination with the General Counsel and National Basketball Association
  • Performs legal research and draft memoranda on various federal, state and local matters
  • Enters and manages contracts in the document management system on behalf of the company
  • Manages the record retention policy including implementation among departments, training employees and staying current on changes in the laws pertaining to records management
  • Investigates, compiles and summarizes data for litigation matters
  • Uses independent judgment and discretion on behalf of the company

Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities

  • Understanding of commercial insurance
  • Drafting of legal documents, business letters, knowledge regarding formation and maintenance of corporate entities, legal research
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products to include Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Must be able to prioritize workflow
  • Must be able to work independently

Experience/Education Requirements

  • Paralegal Certification from an American Bar Association accredited institution. National Association of Legal Assistants (NALA) preferred
  • At least  5 years’ experience in a law firm or in-house legal department with relevant transactional experience

Working Conditions and Physical Demands:

  • Traditional business schedule with occasional weekends, evenings, and certain holidays to meet business needs
